Commissioners Delay Closing of Glenville NFSC
Download this Press Release.
CLEVELAND – The Cuyahoga county Board of Commissioners has decided to delay the planned closure of the Glenville Neighborhood Family Services Center, 12212 St. Clair Avenue.
The decision came as a result of advocacy by three current Cleveland City Council members, Kevin Conwell, Eugene Miller, Shari Cloud, and a Council candidate, Jeffrey Johnson, who brought forward additional information, and the possibility of outside funding sources.
“These Council officials, and Mr. Johnson advocated strongly in behalf of their constituents,” said James McCafferty, County Administrator. “They brought forward important information that should be reviewed as well as information about alternative sources of funding that might be used for the Center that is outside of the County budget to which we do not have access.
The Center, one of six neighborhood centers currently operated by the County, was slated to be closed this month due to the County’s budget constraints. The neighborhood centers provide a wide range of County social services, including food stamps, Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF) and work force training referrals.
Mr. McCafferty said the Commissioners would conduct a thorough review of the information brought forward by the City Council members, and once the review was complete, would make a final decision on the closure.
