Cuyahoga County has released its Investment Request for Federal Economic Stimulus (IRFES). The release and working report can be found on this page. For several years, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) has endeavored to create an environment for the new emerging technologies and industries to gain a foothold here in Cuyahoga County. These local investments and pledges now total over $500 million. Through many efforts and partnerships– Cuyahoga County Blue Ribbon Economic Taskforce, now CuyahogaNEXT; the Fund for Our Economic Future; NOACA; the Cuyahoga Planning Commission – as well as the work of all of the BoCC’s front line departments, the goals of the county and the goals of Federal Stimulus are in alignment.
Goals of Federal Stimulus Funding for Cuyahoga County
ATTENTION: All Board of County Commissioners Stimulus Requests
Because of the need for coordinated and quick action, all official
requests for project funding for stimulus MUST BE SUBMITTED through the
County Administrators Office. Administrator McCafferty has assigned
Stimulus Coordinators - Mr. Jim Corrigan, Government Relations Officer, to submit all official requests. Any input or additions to the Cuyahoga
County IRFES, they must be submitted to the Administrator, through the
Stimulus Coordinators and vetted by senior management. DO NOT SUBMIT STIMULUS REQUESTS on your own.
Capitalize on Local Investments
Cuyahoga County Commissioners have made significant resource investments over the years that set the stage for quick utilization and return on any federal stimulus dollars that will come to Cuyahoga County.
Taking a Collaborative Approach
In conjunction with and in support of regional partners: City of Cleveland; Cuyahoga Mayors and Managers; NOACA; the Port Authority and many others; Cuyahoga County has voiced its support of many projects of regional significance as well as local community needs and will continue to do so.

Encouraging Private Investment and Job Creation
Several of the projects included in the Investment Request for Federal Economic Stimulus are designed to encourage private sector investment, relocation and job retention and job creation.
Fortifying the Social Safety Net
The Commissioners will never forget that the primary mission of county government is to care for the citizens of Cuyahoga County. In hard economic times such as we are currently experiencing, the need is even greater. The County’s Investment Request reflects that needs as well.
Once the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is passed and signed by the President, plans will be made to formally submit the projects in the Cuyahoga County Investment Request for Federal Economic Stimulus funding.
To that end, the State of Ohio has put forth a website and appointed Cleveland Foundation President Ronn Richard as its Stimulus Czar. Most funding requests will need to be submitted through the State of Ohio.
