Brownfield Redevelopment
The Department of Development received ARRA funds from the USEPA for
brownfield redevelopment. These ARRA funds are considered supplemental funding for
agencies, like the Cuyahoga County Department of Development, who have revolving loan fund grants. The funds are
intended to help communities carry out cleanup activities,
redevelopment projects, and create jobs for local residents living near
brownfields sites. These funds will be used to remediate
approximately 22 sites throughout the County. No funding has been issued yet, as applications are due to the Department by mid-February.
Project Description:
Funds will be used to replenish the County’s Brownfield Redevelopment Fund, from which the County will provide loans and sub-grants to support cleanup activities at several of the “shovel-ready” projects identified by the County that are contaminated with hazardous substances and petroleum.
Community Benefits:
Brownfield redevelopment makes it possible to re-use contaminated vacant or under-used land for new industrial and commercial development.. Stimulates business development and creates jobs.
