Blue Ribbon Task Force:Transforming Our Regional Economy
Report to the Auditor of State
Local Government Fragmentation and Efficiency
This work was compiled from the US Census of Governments 2002. An update will be done after the release of the 2007 US Census of Governments. Done as a follow up to the REI report Collaborating to Compete (also included for reference), this work develops some new ways to look at the fragmentation and efficiency of local governments in relation to other large urban counties in the United States.
The Cost of Government
The cost of government is an on-going topic of discussion. The reason the Cuyahoga County Office of Government Services exists is to examine and discuss the total costs of all governments in our county and region and to make observations and recommendations for solutions and action.
In addition to the research that has already been done by REI and this office, the Fund for Our Economic Future has released a study it commissioned from the Center for Governmental Research. The data and report can be found at the link below. It is important to note that these figures and data sets are from 2002 and collected by the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of the Census. Not all local governments participate and data represents ALL public spending by ALL local governments within the political boundaries that are designated the "County of Cuyahoga." These figures do not represent the spending of Cuyahoga County government.

Cuyahoga Community Collaborations
A joint survey was done in 2005 with the Cuyahoga Mayors and Managers Association to identify current collaborations. These are the results at the time. An effort is underway this year to catalogue and chart the changes by end of 2007.
